Spiritual Discussion Group - We
invite you to attend the Spiritual Discussion Group which meets every
First Day at 9:00 AM in the newly renovated Penn Room. Over
the
coming months we will be reading the Gospel of Mark with attention to
the religious, social, cultural, and historical aspects of his
day. Our goal is to arrive at a deeper and more enriching
understanding of Jesus, who he is, what the gospel says he is, and how
we can relate what was recorded 2,000 years ago to what he is revealing
to us today. Monthly Potluck - On the first First Day of the month, Reading Monthly Meeting shares a potluck meal following Meeting for Worship. People bring casseroles, desserts, pickles, fruit... it truly is a potluck. You are welcome to join us even if you have nothing to bring. There is always enough. Meal at Opportunity House - Once a month Friends prepare a meal for the residents of Opportunity House in Reading. Christmas Tea - Usually held on the third First Day (Sunday) of December, this holiday event includes a program organized by the Religious Education Committee, followed by Meeting for Worship and then a light luncheon of finger foods, Christmas Cookies and, of course, tea. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner - Each spring Friends volunteer to either host a dinner for four or six guests at their home, or to bring a dish to feed the group. When someone signs up, they do not know where they will dine or who else will be there. A pleasant evening inevitably ensues. June Picnic - We celebrate the coming of summer with a picnic at a Friend’s home. It is usually held the first First Day of the Sixth Month following Meeting for Worship. Book Group - We meet periodically in Friends’ homes to discuss books pertinent to our faith. Garden Visitors - Friends plan outings to visit both private and public gardens. Baby Welcoming - We celebrate the arrival of a new baby with a special greeting following Meeting for Worship, a cake and a banner made by the Meeting for the new baby. Game Night - Friends gather at a Friend’s home for an evening of good food (pot luck), lively discussion, and games or all sorts. |
