Who are We?

Young Friends of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) is a youth group for high-school aged members and attenders of Monthly Meetings, and their friends,  located in eastern and central Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, Delaware, and the Eastern Shore of Maryland, in the United States. We welcome all interested people who are in grades 9 through 12 or have reached the age of 14 by September 1.

Do I have to be a Quaker to participate?  No.  We are delighted to have you participate!  We are not evangelical.  We will not presure you to be a Quaker.

If you live in one of the areas we cover and would like to be added to our mailing list, or would like more information, please send an e-mail to Cookie Caldwell, cookiec@pym.org, or call 215-241-7222. You'll need to tell us your name, age, and address.

Too young??? Check out Middle School Friends for 6th-8th graders.

If you are over the age of 21 and associated with a Friends (Quaker) Meeting , Friends School or Philadelphia Young Adult Friends, and would like information about being a Friendly Adult Presence ("chaperone" just doesn't capture how special FAP's are to Young Friends), check out our page on Adult Volunteers then contact Cookie Caldwell, cookiec@pym.org, or call 215-241-7222. It's a great opportunity for mentoring young people and learning from them.

If you are over 18?

Check out the Young Adult Friends ages 18-35 webpage.

There is also a Young Adult E-mail listserv for those over 18.

Philadelphia Young Adult Friends (PYAF) is a group of young adult Quakers (roughly 18-35) and Quaker sympathizers meet together and talk about their experiences and needs as young adults.

PYAF seeks to share life experiences and attitudes, and come together as an energetic, supportive community of seekers. They have a foundation in Quaker principles, ethics, and practices.

The group meets every other Thursday and Sunday evenings for a potluck meal, fellowship and Meeting for Worship. Different people take turns hosting the gathering. PYAF gatherings are generally in the Philadelphia, with occasional events in the suburbs.

Check out their Yahoo Group list serve at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pyaf/
